Teaching a couple of classes soon

I have been asked by the Scarlet Macaw Art Community Center in Sawyer, Michigan (my home town) to teach a couple of classes on acrylic painting and decided to do workshops on landscape and portrait painting this October. Below is the poster that I designed for the project. I used a quick ink sketch of Gloria that I drew about the size you see here.

I taught full time for a few years in Detroit and was the Chairman of the Advertising Department at what is now The College for Creative Studies. During this period, the late 1960's, I was also working full time in the advertising business and only missed one day of school because of work. A lot of my advertising assignments at that time were overnight storyboard work and my school schedule was half days except for Wednesday, which was a full day. It was a very busy time for me, but I enjoyed it. I still keep in touch and see a few of my former students, some of whom have already retired and have gray hair like I do. Where did all those years go ?

A new comic book cover parody

I've done a number of comic book cover parodies over the years and thought that I'd do one using JUBILANT MUSE, a painting from the new series that I've been working on. This cover, like all of the others, was created on the computer.

These are always fun to do, I'll be posting a few more as I finish them.

Comic strip fun

I'm trying to locate more of my advertising work to post, especially my storyboard renderings. In the meantime, I will still show you what I am up to at present and also post a few interesting things from the past. On my other blog, hairyblogman.blogspot.com, I'm posting a few of the experimental comic strips that I created when I first started working digitally, here I have just a couple of examples to tempt you to check out what's on the other blog.
Each panel was drawn and inked on illustration board or layout paper, then scanned and colored on the computer. For me, this was a great way to experiment and start learning just what this new medium was all about. I used Photoshop Elements to assemble and color all of these images.

The art above and below are promos for the strip.

A blowup to show you more detail. It's a fun way to work, although, at times the computer can drive you nuts. I recommend that all artists try experimenting in this way.

Designing your own U.S. postage stamps

In case you haven't seen my other blog, hairyblogman.blogspot.com, I will post some postage stamps that I designed using a PhotoStamps kit that someone gave me. It's easy to create your own stamps using their simple program and then they will print them up and send them to you. Go to photostamps.com for more information.

Here I used one of my latest paintings NUDE WITH BLUE HAIR.

Stamp2
Another painting titled COY NUDE.

I always liked this photo of Gloria that was taken in Puerto Vallarta, it makes a great stamp.

I also entered my photo "Cat on a fence" in which only the cat's tail is barely visible.
