Large painting finished

My new large painting titled "Coquette" is finished and measures 60 x 60". It is acrylic on canvas.


Here is the sketch for my next painting "Muse". I have drawn squares over the sketch so I can easily transfer the image onto the canvas. This work measures 48 x 60"


I copied the image to the canvas and am ready to start painting. You will follow the progress on the next post.

New large painting in progress

Here's a shot of my new painting where I backed off a bit to give you an idea of the large size of the canvas.


At this stage I am working on the image which is turned upside down. The black areas on the figure are bring painted in. Large works such as this can be very time consuming.


I've now turned the canvas back to normal and am completing the figure portion.


The painting is almost completed here, but I still have to add many small details and clean up a few areas.

Invitation for upcoming Open House

Craig Smith is having an exhibition at the Pure Reign Spring Forward Open House on Saturday March 31 and asked me to design a mailing piece for the event.


Above is the cover design, that's my hand putting a few strokes on one of my paintings.


Here's the rear cover with all of the info. The inside of the mailer will be used for personal, hand written notes. I remind readers around late March in case any of you want to go to the event.

Starting another large painting

This is a large size canvas, five feet square. I have drawn squares on it which helped me transfer the image to the canvas. The lines are first drawn in pencil, then gone over with a black marker pen. The sketch taped on the canvas is 8.5 x 11".


I begin by first painting in the orange rectangle, then I add some of the blue areas.


I have to turn the canvas upside down to finish painting the background.


I'll have to pretty much fill in all of the color areas and shapes before I can tell if the colors are working properly together. A large painting like this can take a great deal of time to finish. More on the next post

Painting finished

After a few color changes and some details, NUDE ON THE BEACH is finished. The painting is 38 x 52", acrylics on canvas.




I just have started a new painting, it's actually a larger version of one that I had previously painted, this new work will be 60 x 60" in size, again acrylics on canvas. Over this sketch I have marked a grid in white which will help me to transfer the image onto the canvas.

New large painting

As you may have noticed if you follow my blog, that I have not been able to post since my trip to Mexico. I have received a couple of commissions to produce some paintings as a result of my exposure on The Good Wife TV show. I am working on a large painting at the moment and below are the first stages of the development of the piece.


Here is the sketch of the painting and I have drawn squares on it so the I can transfer the various shapes onto the canvas.


The canvas with squares on it which enables me to easily draw and transfer the shapes from the sketch. I first draw in pencil, then use a marker to create heavier lines.


I begin the painting by first adding large areas of color. These colors will eventually have to be changed as the painting develops. Often I will paint the whole canvas one overall color as it is easier to paint the other colors in rather than working on the stark white background.


The color areas are gradually painted in and these will likely have to be changed as the painting develops.


The painting at this stage has gone under many color changes as it is developed. The color of the figure and the lower background color have gone through several changes as the painting develops. I'm having a great time working on this painting. More on the next post.

Back from PV

Gloria and I just got back from a vacation in the sun, a fun place in Mexico called Puerto Vallarta. We've gone there for many years and stay at the great FiestAmericana hotel. We enjoy Puerto Vallarta a great deal, except for the airport entry part which is confusing and exhausting, it took us a couple of days to get over it. We had a great time.
