New painting under way

NP1 This new painting is 48 x 48", acrylics on canvas. NP2 A close up showing the drawing on the canvas as well as the color sketch which was created on the computer. NP3 Gradually new colors are being added, these colors often change as the painting develops. A fun, but often long process, especially on large paintings. NP4 My cats are always around while I'm painting, here is Laura sleeping next to my work table.

New sketch for another painting in my new series

Ptg30 DIA This computer sketch will serve as a basis for a new painting. I have marked squares on the sketch so that I can easily transfer the image onto the canvas.

Another painting finished

Here is another painting in my new series of abstract nudes, it measures 60 x 60", acrylic on canvas, titled "Three stages of a Dream". These large size paintings take a great deal more time to complete, but they are still fun to create. I'm doing large size paintings for an upcoming exhibition in the Fall. 3 Stages of a Dream4"

Thoughts for art students

DO2 As an artist you must be self-motivated, no one is going to force you to paint or draw or think, it's all up to you. The whole process is an exciting adventure, enjoy it !

Painting away !

NewPtg1 I always begin a new painting by first making a drawing in pencil of the image on the canvas. NewPtg2 Here is the preliminary computer sketch on which I drew squares so I could easily transfer the image onto the canvas. NewPtg3 I begin by painting in some of the color areas. NewPtg4 It's a long process on a canvas this large. 60 x 60", but I must get the canvas covered so I can then evaluate the colors properly as they change as other colors are added. NewPtg5 The canvas is almost covered and I am able to alter certain colors to work better in the composition. The painting has been turned sideways in this photo. I have to rotate the canvas often so it can be worked on more easily. I probably have two or three days before the painting is finished, will post the progress.

Computer sketch for a new painting

Ptg29 I'm just in the process of drawing this image onto a 60" x 60" canvas. This will be a fun one to paint, but these large canvases take a great deal more time than the smaller ones do. This will be the 29th painting in this new series and will be part of an exhibition of my work in September that will take place in Dallas.
